If you’re on the Gold Coast or Sunshine Coast and not keen on the crowds or the theme parks, then here are a few school holiday activities to enjoy.

Queensland school holidays:  3 April – 19 April, 2017

1. Enjoy quiet time at the libraries

The libraries have a wide range of programs, from robot making to Lego building, on offer during school holidays. Most of the programs are free and in air conditioned comfort.

2. Discover the Magical World of Crazy Science

Head down to Southport RSL on 9 April, 2017 at 11am and witness the wonder of the Magical World of Crazy Science, an educational and entertaining show like no other. After the show, Southport RSL will host a family fun event with a visit from the Easter Bunny, face painting and children’s entertainment.

General admission is $10 through Southport RSL.

3. Visit the Ginger Factory

The Ginger Factory is a fun attraction for locals and tourists alike, but these school holidays the factory will be even more magical with a visit from Sunshine Coast favourite Nickleby.

He will perform his magic tricks and comedy act daily from 9.30am to 11am, 3- 7 April. 2017.

4. Enjoy Noosa Regional Gallery Family Day

Enjoy a day of art with the little ones on Sunday 9 April at Noosa Regional Gallery. The workshop takes place from 11am to 2pm with exhibiting artist Fiona Groom. There will be plenty of painting activities so be sure to pack old clothes for the kiddies.

The event is free and the Gallery also runs workshops for older children during the holidays. Check their website for a program guide. 

5. Explore Broadwater Parklands

Broadwater Parklands will play host to a wide range of fun family activities during the Gold Coast school holidays. Some of the not-to-be-missed events include pedal car rides, camel and pony rides, gardening, sand art and sun catcher workshops, inflatable soccer games and much more.

6. Indulge in foods, fun and fireworks

Broadbeach Parklands will also bring the spirit of Easter to the Gold Coast with an eggciting line-up of Easter crafts and activities from 14 to 16 April, 2017. To conclude the Easter fun, there will be food trucks, an 80s flashback party and fireworks from 5pm to 9pm on Sunday, 16 April.

7. Stay Healthy and Active

The City of Gold Coast’s Active and Healthy programs have always offered plenty of free (or cheap) things for kids to do. And their Easter holiday program does not disappoint!

There’s a massive line up of Gold Coast school holiday activities for kids including kite making, scooter lessons, waterplay, yoga, Oztag and so much more. There’s even a Justin Bieber dance workshop on 11 April, 2017. Check out the website for a full program line-up.

8. Enjoy an Easter Eggtravaganza

The Marine Village Sanctuary Cove will host an Easter Eggstravaganza on Sunday, April 16. This is a free event with an Easter egg hunt and plenty of fun activities for the kiddies including arts and crafts, face painting and a baby animal farm.

9. Get into nature play

Sparky Do Dah will visit the Gold Coast twice during the school holidays with his famous nature play program – a pop up playground that provides children with an interactive way to discover the wonders of nature.

On 3 April, 2017, he will be at Syd Duncan Park, Lower Beechmont from 9am to 11am. On 8 April, find him at Schuster Park, Tallebudgera from 9am to 11am.

10. Learn to surf or explore a cave

Let kids channel their inner adventurer with a stack of challenging activities including surfing, body boarding, rope challenges, rock climbing and caving. Head on over to the Queensland Government’s Coast Club program to find out more. The program is for kids aged eight and above.

11.  Check out the Bleach Festival

Spanning 16 days, the Gold Coast’s Bleach Festival is for all ages and includes a number of cultural and artistic family-friendly events across 20 different locations. Here I Am is definitely a good one for kiddies as it has an interactive play area just for them. The shows kicks off  at Robina Town Centre on 1 April, 2017.
