Here’s an egg-cellent game to play at your next gender reveal party that will leave your family and friends in stitches. All it takes is a little bit of prep work from a trusted friend and a good sense of humour.

How to play Gender Reveal Egg Roulette

Inspired by a cheeky game played on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon, this gender reveal version of egg roulette involves dying eggs either blue or pink. All of the eggs are hard-boiled, except for the one that will reveal the gender – that one stays raw.

And that’s where the fun lies. Each ‘player’ – usually mum and the dad-to-be but it can also be the siblings, grandparents or friends, take turns in breaking a coloured egg on their forehead. If the egg is hard-boiled – it’s not the gender. Whoever has the raw egg has the correct gender – and a face full of egg!

Setting up Egg Roulette

You want this to be a surprise for as many people as possible, including you and your partner so ask a close friend to set the game up for you. At your ultrasound, have the sonographer jot down the gender on a piece of paper and place it in an envelope. Seal the results and hand them over to your trusted friend who will set up the game for you.

STEP ONE: Get your friend to boil hard boil eleven eggs and keep one raw. Dye the raw egg the correct gender, and the others a mixture of blue and pink – making sure there’s an even number of each colour.

STEP TWO: Put all of the eggs into the fridge until you’re ready to play – it’s better if they’re all cold so there’s no hint as to which ones are hard boiled.

STEP THREE: Now you’re ready to play. You and your partner take it in turns to crack an egg on your forehead. Eventually one of you will break the raw egg – the colour of the egg will tell you if you’re having a boy or a girl.
