Q&A: Is honey ok to eat when pregnant?

While our mums may have put honey on our dummies when we were babies, we now know that’s incredibly dangerous because bacteria in honey can cause infant botulism. But can the same thing happen to bubs when they’re still in the womb?

Honey is perfectly safe to slather on your toast when pregnant because it’s been pasteurised. It’s gone through the process that kills all the nasties that can harm your little nugget. But it does mean you need to avoid raw honey while you have bub on board. You’ll usually find raw honey at farmers markets or directly sold from farms, so just ask if you’re buying honey from somewhere other than the supermarket.
