Birth Story: Baby born at record breaking 6.9kg

6.9kg largest baby born

Joi Buckley gave birth to her daughter Harper, who weighed 15lbs 5oz (6.9kg) and measured 23 and a quarter inches long, earlier this month. Told she would never be able to have children, Joi has broken hospital records.

Harper is the largest baby to be born in New York’s Arnot Odgen Medical Centre and mum and dad are over the moon about it.

“I knew she was going to be big, but I didn’t anticipate no 15-pound baby,” Joi told WETM.

It wasn’t always such a happy story, just a few years ago, Joi and her husband were told by doctors they had less than a 15% chance of becoming pregnant. After trying for about 7-years the Buckley’s decided they would adopt instead.

In 2016, Joi found out she was pregnant, later giving birth to an 11-pound (4.9kg) baby boy. Less than two years later, an even bigger surprise. The Buckley’s second child, a baby girl, Harper was born at 15-pounds, 5 ounces (6.9kg).

Joi and her husband hope their story will give other couples struggling with infertility hope.
