Q&A: When is the best time to go on a babymoon?

Question & Answer

Spending some one-on-one holiday time with baby daddy before bub comes along, is always a great idea, but when is the best time in pregnancy to go on a babymoon?

My partner and I really want to take a holiday before bub comes along, but I’m not sure when we should go. I’m feeling heaps better now that my morning sickness has gone, but not sure whether to soon while I feel good and not too big or later on.

There’s a definite babymoon sweet spot that most mums-to-be aim for when booking their pre-bub holiday. A time during pregnancy when they’re feeling good (i.e: not throwing up), and can still move around easily (i.e: can still see their toes). Here’s what you should consider when planning when to take your babymoon.

When is the best time to take a babymoon?

For many women, the first trimester is plagued with feeling either sick or tired, or a combination of both. While it’s hard to predict when the morning sickness will end, for most women it tends to ease up at around 12 to 14 weeks. This also coincides with a return of energy.

So for most women, the second trimester heralds the perfect babymoon period – up until week 27. You’ll hopefully be feeling your best, and still mobile enough to enjoy walks on the beach or days out shopping.

The other bonus to choosing the second trimester to take your babymoon is that if you want to fly to your destination, most airlines will still allow it. Take a look at the flying while pregnant restrictions here:

The other thing to consider is the weather at your destination. If you’re planning on travelling later in pregnancy, it’s worth checking if it’s the hottest time of year where you’re headed. Pregnancy and extreme heat don’t mix well!
