Thought slow cookers were just for casseroles and stews? Think again.
Warm up on winter nights with a slow cooker deep pan pizza the family will love. This easy dinner idea is packed with flavour and full of ooey-gooey goodness. Made with just five ingredients, this weeknight favourite is a cinch to make and guaranteed to leave the kids begging for more.
Let’s get cooking…
Ingredients
- 500g (1lb) pizza dough (see tip)
- 80g (21⁄2oz) sliced pepperoni
- 1⁄2 cup (130g) thick pasta sauce (see tip)
- 2⁄3 cup (65g) grated pizza cheese
- 1⁄2 cup fresh basil leaves
Method
STEP ONE: Preheat slow cooker on low.
STEP TWO: Remove slow cooker insert from base and line with foil; spray foil well with oil. Remove dough from packets and knead together lightly to form a ball. Place dough in the insert. Return insert to slow cooker. Cook, covered, for 45 minutes to prove.
STEP THREE: Adjust the setting to high. Push dough down lightly, pressing it out towards the side of the insert to cover the base and create a thick rim. Place half the pepperoni over the base. Spread over pasta sauce, then top with remaining pepperoni and the cheese. Cook, covered, for 4 hours.
STEP FOUR: Preheat oven grill (broiler) on medium.
STEP FIVE: Remove pizza from slow cooker; place on an oven tray. Grill for 10 minutes or until cheese and crust are browned.
STEP SIX: Top pizza with basil; serve straight away.
Top tip!
We used ready-made pizza dough and a fresh pasta sauce from the refrigerator section of supermarkets.
