In a huge cost saving to mums and dads, Victorian parents are able to access free child car seat fittings and safety checks from next month, with registrations already open.

Parents are able to register to attend free child car seat fittings and safety checks at their local neighbourhood house or community organisation, and it’s not just for new parents putting car seats in for the first time. Any parent who already has car seats or boosters fitted is able to have them checked by an expert to make sure they’re fitted correctly.

The $4 million dollar state government program means parents will no longer need to fork out up to $40 to have each car seat expertly fitted. It’s estimated that around 70 per cent of child car restraints aren’t fitted or used correctly, which makes injury to a child up to seven times more likely.

Kidsafe Victoria and Neighbourhood Houses Victoria have joined forces to deliver the program across the state.

“Bringing your baby home for the first time can be daunting, but we’re making it just that little bit easier, and making sure your precious cargo is safe and secure out on the road,” said Health Minister Jenny Mikakos.

“There’s nothing more important than the safety of our kids, and it’s crucial that child car seats are fitted by the experts.”
