Hold onto your tennis rackets and get ready to serve up some sweetness because our beloved Ash Barty has just scored a precious point off the court! That’s right, mamas, our tennis superstar has announced the arrival of their very own little champion, and we couldn’t be more excited!
In a joint Instagram post, Ash Barty and her husband Gary Kissick announced on Tuesday that they’ve welcomed their first child into the world, sharing:
“Our beautiful boy ❤️ Welcome to the world, Hayden!”

The proud parents have chosen to name their little boy Hayden, which is derived from the Old English word “hæg,” meaning “hedged valley,” In this sense, the name Hayden can symbolise a connection to nature. This name made the top 200 on our very own list of Mum’s Grapevine member’s Top Baby Names for 2022.
Ash Barty announced her pregnancy in January of 2023 shortly after announcing her retirement from tennis.

Ash Barty is expecting her first baby

Australia’s sweetheart and former world no. 1 tennis star Ash Barty is expecting her first baby with her husband, Garry Kissick.
The 26-year-old took to Instagram over the weekend to make the pregnancy announcement with a little help from her fur baby. In a picture showing the couple’s dog snuggled up next to a pair of teeny tiny tennis shoes Ash wrote:
“2023 set to be the best year yet. We are so excited for our new adventure 👶🏼💫
Origi is already the protective big sister❤️”

Gary also posted to his Instagram a similar photo to Ash but with his including a tiny Liverpool jersey with the caption: “Little Red, 2023 👶🥰”

Of course, being amongst Australian royalty, the congratulations came flooding in from a number of big names including international and local sports stars and even The Wiggles who wrote: “Congrats Ash! 🥰” under the photo. One of the most notable wishes of congratulations came from Australia’s very own Prime Minister Anthony Albanese who sent his good wishes to the expecting parents saying “this is just fantastic news that Ash Barty is going to be a new mum in 2023”.
The couple who have been together since 2017, got engaged in November 2021 and were married in July 2022 in a small, private ceremony in Queensland.
The couple announced that they were married on Instagram a week later with an image from their wedding day with the caption:
